Bombax ceiba blooms at Sunder Nursery – Free Wallpaper Calendar for July 2021

The monsoons are delayed in Delhi NCR this year and the promised average historical date of June 29 has not arrived, so we are entering dry July and preparing for another week or 10 days of hot weather. Although this image was pressed in Delhi’s short spring sometime in February, I’m sharing it for the wallpaper calendar for July 2021, so it won’t be until spring next year to really enjoy the flowers of this beautiful tree that heralds spring in Delhi.

Here is what I wrote earlier about the flowering of the Bombax ceiba tree in NCR Delhi.

A little more about this particular Bombax ceiba tree: If you look closely at this tree featured in the July 2021 wallpaper calendar, you will see that the flowers are not blood red, but a different color, a translucent orange-gold if I remember correctly. Now most of the flowers of the Bombax ceiba aka Semal, or silk cotton tree, are blood red and this is the only tree I have seen with organic golden flowers. There may be more, but I don’t know about the same, have you seen Bombax ceiba flowers in any color other than red?

Here is some interesting information about Semal flowers > Dried flowers of Bombax ceiba are used in traditional Thai cuisine to make soups, and in Cantonese culture to make an invigorating tea using dried flowers. And Wikipedia also tells me that Bombax ceiba flower used in the trademark of China Southern Airlines.

I’m sure some of you would like to know more about the monument that is eclipsed by a flowering tree, but I think I’ll write a more detailed post about it sometime in the future.
