Police say it happened when the driver aborted an attempt to overtake another car, pulled onto the side of the road and crashed into a bus stop.

As a result of the incident, the wooden shelter collapsed.

A social media post from the Hampshire Roads Police Unit said: “One lucky driver. After an interrupted overtaking, the driver pulled over to the side of the road, passing through a bus stop.”

The accident happened near Alresford.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call at 4:05 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 18, saying that the vehicle had collided with a bus stop on the A272 near the Brockwood Lane junction.

“The driver received minor injuries. We were present and by 18:00 the scene was cleared.”
